2011 Euromoney Asia Women in Business Law Awards

Gilbert + Tobin won two awards at the inaugural Euromoney Asia Women in Business Law Awards:

  • Best Law Firm in Australia
  • Best Lawyer in Competition/Antitrust – Gina Cass-Gottlieb

Gilbert + Tobin was also a finalist for the Best National Firm for Women in Business Law, and Sheila McGregor was a finalist for Best Lawyer in TMT.

The Euromoney Asia Women in Business Law Awards celebrate the achievements of women leading the field in the legal sector across Asia.

2011 CFO Dealbook Awards

Gilbert + Tobin advised on the Private Equity Exit of the Year, acting for Crescent Capital Partners on their exit of National Hearing Care.

The CFO Dealbook Awards recognise significant achievements in Australian finance. They acknowledge not only Chief Financial Officers but also the teams who ensured that the deals took place.

2011 Lawyers Weekly ICON Awards

Garry Besson won Deal Maker of the Year at the 2011 Lawyers Weekly ICON Awards.

Jane Hogan was a finalist for the Box-Breaker Award for the FRANK (For Realising Aggregating & Networking our Knowledge) system.

The Lawyers Weekly ICON Awards recognise excellence, innovation and leadership within the Australian legal profession.

2011 ALB Australasian Law Awards

Gilbert + Tobin won three awards at the 2011 Australasian Law Awards:

  • Insolvency and Restructuring Deal of the Year, for the Alinta Energy restructure
  • Energy & Resources Deal of the Year Award, for the Arrow Energy/Dart Energy demerger and Shell & PetroChina takeover of Arrow Energy
  • Innovative Use of Technology Award for the FRANK project

The ALB Australasian Law Awards recognise and celebrate the successes of the past year within the Australian legal industry.

International Law Office (ILO) Client Choice Awards 2011

Gilbert + Tobin won the Best Australian Law Firm award for the second consecutive year at the International Law Office (ILO) Client Choice Awards 2011.

Based in the UK, ILO surveys only senior corporate counsel and the awards recognise those law firms and partners around the world that stand apart for the excellent client care they provide and the quality of their service. The criteria for the awards focus on law firms’ ability to add real value to their clients’ business above and beyond the other players in the market.

2011 InterContinental Finance Magazine Legal Excellence Awards

Gilbert + Tobin won two awards at the 2011 InterContinental Finance Magazine Legal Excellence Awards:

  • Law Firm of the Year – Corporate Governance
  • Law Firm of the Year – Mergers & Acquisitions

The InterContinental Finance Magazine Legal Excellence Awards have a special focus on geographical expertise, awarding those firms that have been voted by the readership for demonstrating a high degree of ability in their field.

2011 BRW Client Choice Awards

Gilbert + Tobin won Best Provider rated by the Finance and Insurance Industry at the 2011 BRW Client Choice Awards.

BRW introduced sector categories to their Client Choice Awards which are based on client feedback from specific industry groups. The winners represent the professional service firms that were the highest rated by clients on their overall performance.

2010 Corporate INTL Legal Awards

Gilbert + Tobin won three awards at the 2010 Corporate INTL Legal Awards:

  • Banking & Finance Law Firm of the Year in Australia
  • Communications Law Firm of the Year in Australia
  • Telecoms Law Firm of the Year in Hong Kong

Corporate INTL has established these awards to recognise outstanding practice across a number of legal practice areas.

 2010 M&A Advisor Awards

Gilbert + Tobin advised on the Energy Deal of the Year Award (Over $100m), acting for Pacific Equity Partners on their off-market takeover bid for all the shares in Energy Developments Limited.

The internationally recognised M&A Advisor Awards honour deal-teams, deal-makers, and firms whose activities set the standard for excellence in global deal-making.

2010 Lawyers Weekly ICON Awards

Danny Gilbert won Managing Partner of the Year at the inaugural 2010 Lawyers Weekly ICON Awards and was also a finalist for the Life Achievement Award.

Gilbert + Tobin was a finalist for the Pro Bono Initiative Award for the How Big Are Your Dreams? program.

Commencing in 2010, the ICON Awards recognise excellence, innovation and leadership in the legal profession.

2010 ALB Australasian Law Awards

Gilbert + Tobin won two awards at the 2010 ALB Australasian Law Awards:

  • Insolvency and Restructuring Deal of the Year, for the ABC Learning Centres receivership
  • Enhancement of the NSW Legal Profession

Gilbert + Tobin was also nominated as a finalist for:

  • Managing Partner of the Year – Danny Gilbert
  • Sydney Law Firm of the Year
  • Corporate Citizen Firm of the Year
  • Insolvency and Restructuring Deal of the Year, for the Allco sale of aviation assets

International Law Office (ILO) Client Choice Awards 2010

Gilbert + Tobin won two awards at the International Law Office (ILO) Client Choice Awards 2010:

  • Best Australian Law Firm
  • Peter Waters – individual award for Telecommunications work in Australia

2010 BRW Client Choice Awards

Gilbert + Tobin won Best Law Firm ($50 to $200 million revenue) in the BRW Client Choice Awards 2010, for the second year running.

The BRW Client Choice Awards seek to recognise Australia’s best professional service firms. The award winners were determined through an extensive survey of buyers of professionals services, independently conducted by Beaton Consulting, giving clients the opportunity to rate the performance of the firms they use. Over 20,000 buyers of professional services participated in the research.

2009 CFO Awards

Gilbert + Tobin won the Project Finance Deal of the Year award for the Hallett Hill Wind Farm, South Australia. The deal demonstrated innovative approaches to balance the risks and complexity of the national electricity market with the reality of a carbon-constrained future.
 
Gilbert + Tobin represented AGL Energy Limited. Deal value was A$548 million.

Gilbert + Tobin won five awards at the 2009 ALB Australasian Law Awards:

  • Insolvency and Restructuring Deal of the Year, for the Allco Finance Group restructuring, refinancing and receivership
  • M&A Deal of the Year, for the Westpac St George merger
  • Australasian Deal of the Year, for the Westpac St George merger
  • Sydney Law Firm of the Year, for the third consecutive year
  • Corporate Citizen Law Firm of the Year, for the second consecutive year.

Gilbert + Tobin was also nominated as a finalist for:

  • Managing Partner of the Year – Danny Gilbert
  • Energy and Resources Deal of the Year – BG Group acquisition of Queensland Gas Company Limited
  • M&A Deal of the Year – BG Group acquisition of Queensland Gas Company Limited
  • Project Finance Deal of the Year – AGL Sale of wind farm to EIT
  • Australian Dealmaker of the Year – Gary Lawler.

2009 BRW Client Choice Awards

Gilbert + Tobin won two awards at the 2009 BRW Client Choice Awards:

  • Best Law Firm – revenue $50m – $200m
  • Best New South Wales Firm

The BRW Client Choice Awards seeks to recognise Australia’s best professional service firms.The winners are determined through an extensive survey conducted by Beaton Consulting of buyers of professionals services giving clients the opportunity to rate the performance of the firms they engage. Gilbert + Tobin was commended for being responsive, commercial, always available, excellent communicators, having excellent experience and understanding the issues in our clients’ industries.

2009 BRW ANZ Private Business Awards

In recognition of its pro bono and community efforts, Gilbert + Tobin was a finalist in the BRW ANZ Private Business Awards for Excellence in Community Practices.

2008 Asian-Counsel Deals of the Year

Gilbert + Tobin’s work on the merger of Westpac and St. George was recognised as one of Asian Counsel’s 2008 Deals of the Year, as this deal represented the largest corporate merger in Australian history.

Gilbert + Tobin represented Westpac. Deal value was A$47 Billion.

2008 BRW ANZ Private Business Awards

Danny Gilbert won ‘Most Admired Private Business Owner of the Year’ at the inaugural awards. The award recognised his commitment to community engagement and pro bono work, and his success in creating one of Australia’s most successful and well respected law firms in just 20 years.

2008 ALB Australasian Law Awards

Gilbert + Tobin won four awards at the 2008 ALB Australasian Law Awards:

  • Sydney Law Firm of the Year, for the second consecutive year
  • Debt Market Deal of the Year, for the recapitalisation of PBL’s media assets
  • Corporate Citizen Law Firm of the Year
  • Danny Gilbert won Managing Partner of the Year.

Gilbert + Tobin was also nominated as a finalist at the awards for:

  • Australian Dealmaker of the Year – Gina Cass-Gottlieb

2008 Legal Business Awards

Gilbert + Tobin won Asia Pacific Law Firm of the Year at the 2008 Legal Business Awards in London.

We were the only Australian firm nominated for the prestigious award and we beat several high-profile international firms for the honour. The Asia Pacific Law Firm of the Year is assessed by the complexity of cases, transactions and matters that firms have advised on in 2007. The panel also consider increased market share in the region and contributions to the Asia Pacific markets.

2008 International Alliance Awards

Gilbert + Tobin was short-listed for the Best Australian Law Firm of 2008 (M&A and Corporate Finance practice) at the International Alliance Awards.

2007 ALB Australasian Law Awards

Gilbert + Tobin won two awards at the 2007 ALB Australasian Law Awards:

  • Sydney Law Firm of the Year
  • Energy & Resources Deal of the Year – AGL/Alinta merger.

Gilbert + Tobin was also nominated as a finalist at the awards for:

  • M&A Deal of the Year – AGL/Alinta merger
  • Australian Deal Team of the Year – Corporate/ M&A
  • Australian Dealmaker of the Year – Andrew Bullock.

2007 BRW – St George Client Choice Awards

Gilbert + Tobin won best law firm in the $20M – $100M category at the 2007 BRW – St George Client Choice Awards.

The awards are based on results from the Beaton Consulting survey which commended Gilbert + Tobin for well-researched and astute advice, with Gilbert + Tobin partners singled out for their personal commitment to clients.

2007 Chambers Global Awards

Gilbert + Tobin was short-listed for Australian Law Firm of the Year at the prestigious 2007 Chambers Global Awards – run by the world’s leading guide to the legal profession. This was the first time a non-national Australian law firm was short-listed.

2006 Fuji Xerox Australian Law Awards

Gilbert + Tobin won three awards at the 2006 Fuji Xerox Australian Law Awards:

  • International Law Firm of the Year
  • Australian Law Firm of the Year in the 51 – 500 practising certificates class
  • IT, IP and Telecommunications Firm of the Year.

This was the fourth year Gilbert + Tobin won the Australian Law Award for IT and Telecoms and the third year the firm won the IP award. Gilbert + Tobin also received a Highly Commended certificate for the Energy and Resources Award.

2006 ALB Australasian Law Awards

Gilbert + Tobin won the IT / Telco Deal of the Year for our work on the Reach Restructure in Asia at the 2006 ALB Australasian Law Awards.

Gilbert + Tobin was also nominated as a finalist at the awards for:

2004 Premier’s NSW Exporter of the Year Award

Gilbert + Tobin won the Premier’s NSW Exporter of the Year Award for outstanding achievement in exporting to Asia in October 2004. The award recognised our outstanding export achievement in the provision of specialist advisory services focusing on international information and communications technology transactions and regulations.
