As a committed supporter of diversity, Gilbert + Tobin is delighted to announce partner Moya Dodd’s appointment as a member of FIFA’s “11 for diversity”.

“11 for Diversity” is a FIFA-compiled jury consisting of 11 prominent figures from global football and experts in diversity and anti-discrimination. The panel will  be responsible for judging FIFA’s inaugural Diversity Award to be held in July this year.

The FIFA Diversity Award aims to recognise an outstanding organisation, group initiative or football personality that is standing up for diversity and anti-discrimination in football on a national or international level and on a sustained basis.

Moya, who is a partner in Gilbert + Tobin’s Competition + Regulatory group, former vice-captain of the Matildas, and the chairwoman of the FIFA Task Force for Women’s Football, said she was thrilled to be appointed to the panel. “I am honoured to be part of this jury, which is committed to the ongoing global fight against exclusion and discrimination,” she says.

“Football is a global and unique convening power. It bridges culture, class and creed like nothing else. It helps us rise above our prejudices to realise our commonality and our humanity.  Progress made in football will spread into society more broadly,” Moya continues.

The FIFA “11 for diversity” panel includes other former international players such as Clarence Seedorf (Holland),  Abby Wambach (USA), Thomas Hitzlsperger (Germany)  and Jaiyah Saelua (American Samoa), one of the Fa’afafine or “third gender” people specific to Samoan culture, who is believed to be the first transgender player ever to participate in a FIFA World Cup™ qualifier.  Other members include anti-racism campaigner Piara Power, disability and access advocate Joyce Cook, and Tokyo Sexwale, and anti-apartheid activist who was imprisoned with Nelson Mandela on Robben Island.

Gilbert + Tobin is committed to diversity in the workplace and in 2015 was awarded an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation from the Workplace Gender Equality Agency, which recognises its performance in relation to gender equality, diversity and inclusion. Gilbert + Tobin is also a proud member of Pride in Diversity, Australia’s leading workplace program for inclusion of LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex) employees.
