Gilbert + Tobin today announced it has recruited two new high-profile partners: Costas Condoleon and Philip Edmands to its Sydney and Perth offices respectively. 

Costas is one of Australia's leading strategic mergers and acquisitions and corporate lawyers. He joins Gilbert + Tobin from Minter Ellison where he was the firm’s Deals Chair, overseeing major M&A and ECM transactions. Costas will join the firm’s Sydney office on 1 July 2016.

Costas is widely recognised as a leading lawyer in his field in independent legal directories, noted for his ‘amazing legal mind’, his ‘commercial judgement’ and his tactical strength in public market M&A.

Phil is a former Managing Director Australia and General Counsel Iron ore, Australia at Rio Tinto where he headed up the company’s Australian head office in Melbourne. Phil has been with Rio Tinto for almost 10 years and was formerly Perth Managing Partner at Blake Dawson Waldron (now Ashurst) practising in its Energy & Resources group. He joins Gilbert + Tobin’s Perth office on 1 June 2016. 

Phil is also a former Director, Business Council of Australia and Minerals Council of Australia.

The appointment of both Costas and Phil comes in addition to the recent recruitment of Perth resources and native title litigator Marshall McKenna who joins Gilbert + Tobin on 1 June and property and construction partner Steven Mackay who recently joined the firm’s Sydney office.
