Gilbert + Tobin has been recognised in the Janders Dean Legal Innovation Index 2018. The win further demonstrates the firm’s leadership in harnessing the power of technology to meet its internal and client needs in a streamlined, timely and more efficient way.

The Legal Innovation Index celebrates organisations and individuals that are pushing the legal sector forward through the creation and implementation of innovative practices and strategies.

G+T was named organisational winner for their development of Verification, a tool which automates the initial public offering (IPO) verification process.

The IPO verification process, where prospectus statements in IPO documents must be evidenced or verified as true or authentic, is notoriously labour-intensive. It has largely remained unchanged across the legal industry for over 20 years.

G+T identified the IPO verification process as a ‘pain point’ ready for automation. G+T’s market-leading Corporate Advisory team, in collaboration with G+T’s Legal Service Innovation team and innovation unit, g+t compared commercially available products against the return on investment for developing a solution in-house. With no appropriate market solution available, the firm’s in-house developers created an innovative tool which automates the verification process.

Commenting on the award, G+T Partner and Chief Knowledge + Innovation Officer Caryn Sandler said, “To my knowledge, G+T is the first and only law firm to have developed its own automated verification tool. Verification provides significant time and cost savings to G+T lawyers and clients, and improves the quality, productivity and client experience of verification. While the initial use case was IPO verification, there are broader applications of this technology which we are now exploring.”

Entrepreneurialism and innovation are at the heart of G+T’s success. In addition to the Janders Dean Innovation Index win, the firm recently took out the Innovation in Rule of Law and Access to Justice Award at the 2018 Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Awards Asia-Pacific. G+T was the only law firm named in the Australian Financial Review’s Most Innovative Companies List 2017.
