Special Counsel

Genevieve is a special counsel in in Gilbert + Tobin’s Competition + Regulation group.

Genevieve’s competition law experience includes acting in relation to ACCC inquiries, investigations and enforcement proceedings for alleged breaches under Part IV. Genevieve’s experience includes general advisory matters, managing and navigating investigation processes, engagement and negotiation with the ACCC in respect of settlement proceedings, as well as acting on behalf of corporations and individuals in contested Federal Court proceedings involving complex market and economic evidence. 

She also acts for clients in respect of acquisition and merger clearance work and advising under the Australian Consumer Law. Genevieve also advises clients regulated by sector specific regimes, such as the National Gas Law and National Electricity Law. She has successfully acted on behalf of various energy clients in merits review applications before the Australian Competition Tribunal and has also advised State-based regulators.

Genevieve’s experience also includes acting on behalf of both corporations and individuals in relation to ASIC investigations and associated criminal prosecutions brought on behalf of the Commonwealth Department of Public Prosecutions for insider-trading offences under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth). She has also acted on behalf of an individual in proceedings commenced by the Australian Federal Police under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (Cth).

Genevieve recently acted successfully for a large telecommunications client in relation to the ACCC’s Domestic Mobile Roaming Inquiry conducted under Part XIC, which is the telecommunications equivalent of Part IIIA.

Genevieve holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Economics from the Australian National University. She has also completed a Masters of International Law at Sydney University majoring in international trade regulation.  Genevieve is admitted as a solicitor in both the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory.
