Biography

    Chris is a partner in Gilbert + Tobin’s Tech+IP group specialising in Intellectual Property

    He has litigated patents across a range of industries including mining, electronics, ecommerce and life sciences. Chris has an excellent track record of winning at both trial and appellate level and can draw upon his extensive litigation experience in IP issues traversing copyright, trade mark, confidential information and consumer protection matters.

    Chris also leads a talented team of lawyers who provide regulatory and compliance advice relating to food safety and therapeutic goods. Having dual qualifications in New Zealand (1997) and Australia (2003), he has represented clients in regulatory investigations in both jurisdictions.

    Since 2014 Chris has been identified as an “IP Star” in patent law in Australia by MIP with recommendations for Patent Office Proceedings, Patent Strategy & Counselling and Patent Litigation. Chris is a co-author (with Peter Leonard) of the Australian Chapter of Intellectual Property in Electronics and Software for Globe Law and Business (2013 and 2018).   

    Chris holds an LLM from UNSW and BA/LLB (Hons) from Auckland University. He is the former Chairman of the NSW Committee and current member of the Trans-Tasman Committee for IPSANZ. His professional memberships also include INTA, LESANZ and AIPPI.

    Chris is ranked Band 4 in Intellectual Property: Patents.
