Catherine Dermody, Partner
Catherine is a partner in Gilbert + Tobin's Competition & Regulation group.
Catherine provides advice in relation to telecommunications, gas, and electricity regulation in Australia. Her experience includes the conduct of significant merits review applications before the Australian Competition Tribunal. Catherine has also advised a number of clients on competition and regulatory issues in numerous jurisdictions including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, and Hong Kong.
Prior to joining the firm, Catherine gained experience working for regulatory bodies both in Australia and in the United Kingdom. She spent six years at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, primarily focussed on regulation and competition issues in network industries. Catherine also spent two years at the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets Authority (Ofgem) in the United Kingdom.
Catherine has a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the Australian National University, a Masters of Law from Melbourne University and a Postgraduate Diploma in European Community Competition Law from King’s College, London. Catherine is admitted to the Supreme Courts of the ACT and New South Wales, and she was previously admitted in England and Wales.
