The Hornsdale Wind Farm is one of Australia’s most prominent renewable energy assets, with a total installed capacity of 316 MW across 99 turbines, generating approximately 1,050,000 MWh annually - enough to power around 225,000 homes. It neighbours and shares connection infrastructure with the Hornsdale Power Reserve, a landmark Australian Battery Energy Storage System project, which will continue to be owned by Neoen, a portfolio company of Brookfield Asset Management.
Atmos Renewables’ portfolio comprises a diversified base of renewable energy assets across wind, solar and battery technology, including a significant pipeline of development assets across Australia.
The transaction takes Atmos from minority to 100% owner of the asset (having acquired a minority interest across the 3 stages of the asset in 2021) and also delivers Atmos operational control, internalising existing management arrangements. The deal structure includes funding from Igneo funds and co-investors.
The G+T deal team was led by Nirangjan Nagarajah, Chris Flynn and Alicia Un, who were supported by a number of lawyers and specialists from across the firm. Nirangjan commented:
This transaction reflects the Igneo and Atmos teams’ capacity to move with conviction on quality assets and process complexity along the way. The support Igneo received from its investors is a strong reflection of its position in the market, and shows the significant role superannuation funds play as a pool of capital that is central to building Australia’s clean energy future. It was a privilege to support the team on this deal.
