G+T is proud to have advised the Ainsworth Family on the launch of the Grevillea Foundation and its landmark $50 million donation to establish the Ainsworth Endometriosis Research Institute (AERI) at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), the world’s first institute solely dedicated to endometriosis research.
This is the largest known philanthropic commitment to endometriosis globally and the most significant contribution to women’s health in Australian history.
AERI will focus on improving the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis, a chronic and often painful condition affecting around one in seven Australian women under 49. Diagnosis can take six to eight years, and despite its prevalence, research funding and tailored care have long been insufficient.
G+T supported the Ainsworth Family on the formation and registration of the Grevillea Foundation as a charity and advised on the associated grant agreement with UNSW. The matter was co-led by Charities and Social Sector Partner Darren Fittler and Technology and Intellectual Property Partner Tim Gole, with support from lawyers Neha Sharma and Clare Beardall.
Darren commented:
Supporting the Ainsworth Family in launching the Grevillea Foundation has been deeply rewarding. This initiative will leave a lasting legacy in endometriosis research and care.
The Ainsworth Family commented:
Gilbert + Tobin were exceptional to work with in the formation of the Grevillea Foundation and development of the grant agreement for AERI. Their deep knowledge of the Charities and IP sectors has set us up for a future where we can effectively support scientific research into endometriosis and create change for the millions of women living with the condition around the world.
