SydWest has been providing multicultural and social services since 1985 in the Greater Western Sydney region. The acquisition of Riverlink represents a strategic expansion and consolidation of services within the disability sector, enabling SydWest to enhance its service offerings and improve operational efficiency.
The acquisition brought Riverlink in as a subsidiary of SydWest, building on the success of SydWest’s 2023 acquisition of Participate Australia.
G+T’s unique blend of charity law and M&A experience enabled the firm to advise across the full scope of the transaction, including targeted legal due diligence, governance and regulatory compliance and strategic implementation. The team supported SydWest’s board with analysis of key risks and provided specialist guidance on the complexities of acquiring an ACNC registered charity and the associated ATO tax concessions.
The G+T team was led by Elizabeth Lathlean, special counsel in the Charities and Social Sector team, with support from partner Darren Fittler, lawyers Darrell Bagang and Neha Sharma, as well as restructuring and insolvency experts partner Orla McCoy and special counsel Mikhail Glavac.
Elizabeth commented:
This acquisition is a powerful alignment of purpose and people. SydWest and Riverlink share a deep commitment to community care and this partnership helps both organisations to deliver on their charitable purpose; and position them to better meet the needs of current and future clients.
