Gilbert + Tobin has assisted with the establishment of The SurFebruary Foundation as a public ancillary fund and registered charity. The Foundation raises funds to support organisations focused on cancer research, clinical trials, treatment and care. With the initial establishment motivated by the personal cancer diagnosis of one of the co-founders, the Foundation encourages individuals to raise funds whilst catching a wave a day throughout February. As a public ancillary fund and registered charity, the Foundation can now do this in a more focused manner and receive tax deductible donations.

Charities + Social Sector Partner, Darren Fittler and Senior Lawyer, Elizabeth Lathlean, who led the establishment process said “We are delighted to have assisted The SurFebruary Foundation on the formalisation of its important work and are excited to see the Foundation continue to grow and make a difference through its increased ability to raise funds.”

Darren and Elizabeth were supported by consultant, Kate Pipe and graduate, Karla Dunbar.

Co-founder, Jenna-Lea Clark, said “Taking the step to establish The SurFebruary Foundation as a registered charity was the natural progression in the growth of the community fund raising event. We are grateful to Darren and Elizabeth for their guidance and expertise; supporting us in this process and enabling us with the foundations we need to expand our impact in the cancer research space and improve the outcomes for even more Australians affected by cancer.”
