Gilbert + Tobin are delighted to announce that the proposed acquisition of Korean Air’s majority stake in Asiana won ‘Merger Control Matter of the Year’ for the Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa region at the 2023 GCR awards. G+T acted for Korean Air, achieving unconditional ACCC clearance in September 2022 on the Australian aspects of the proposed acquisition.

The G+T team was led by head of Competition, Consumer + Market Regulation, Elizabeth Avery, with support from special counsel Rebecca Dollisson and lawyers Johnathon Geagea, Jacqueline Reid and Aaron Park.

Previously commenting on the transaction, Elizabeth said: "The airline industry has experienced significant disruption in the past few years. The 2023 GCR awards ceremony took place at the Conrad Hotel in Washington, DC, honouring the world’s leading antitrust lawyers, economists, and the most significant matters from 2022.
