Claire Boyd

Biography

Claire is a partner in our Projects and Construction group.

She specialises in the mining and resources sectors and land access. Claire has over 25 years’ experience advising on all aspects of mining, energy and resources projects from acquisition, structuring, development to the on-going operation and then divestment of projects. Claire has particular expertise with farm-in arrangements and joint ventures, two of the most commonly used structures for mining assets in Australia. Claire has worked on projects across all commodities and all States and Territories in Australia.

Claire also provides advice on regulatory compliance, approvals, tenure and land access matters. Claire has considerable experience with both mining and Crown land tenure, including State Agreements, and regularly assists clients with complex tenure and land access issues.

Claire is a member of The Energy and Resources Law Association (formerly AMPLA) and was involved in the development of the AMPLA model production joint venture agreement, the model framework royalty deed and the model access agreements for Western Australia. Claire is also a member of the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies (AMEC) and sits on both the Mining Legislation Committee and the Corporate Regulation & Taxation Committee.

  • Ora Banda Mining Ltd in relation to its lithium focused joint venture and mineral sharing arrangements with Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy & Fertilisers.

  • Mt Gibson Iron on the sale of its Midwest iron ore mining and infrastructure assets.

  • Lunnon Metals Ltd on its acquisition of the Fisher-Silver Lake nickel rights from Gold Fields Ltd.

  • Thunderbird Operations Pty Ltd on port and logistics arrangements for its Thunderbird mineral sands project in Kimberley, Western Australia.

  • De Grey Mining Ltd on tenement sub-lease and pastoral access arrangements for the Hemi gold project.

  • Mincor Resources NL on a variety of template and specific services arrangements for the restart of its Kambalda nickel mines.

  • Salubris Australia Limited on the establishment of its carbon farming business and related land acquisitions and services arrangements.

  • Antipa Minerals Ltd on its farm-out, joint venture and/or placement arrangements with Newcrest Mining Limited, IGO Limited and Rio Tinto in relation to its projects in the Paterson region of Western Australia.

  • IGO Ltd on the negotiation and drafting of offtake arrangements with BHP Billiton relating to the nickel sulphide concentrate from its Nova and Forrestania nickel mines.

  • Tellus Holdings Ltd on regulatory, tenure and land access matters and related financing issues for its unique dual stream mining and waste disposal business.

  • APA in relation to tenure, land access and approvals matters for their power generation and transmission infrastructure in the Pilbara.

  • Alinta Energy in relation to tenure, land access and related financing issues for the Yandin Wind Farm, near Dandaragan, Western Australia.
