Kane Barnett

Biography

Kane is a special counsel in our Corporate Advisory group.

He advises Australian and international clients on fund formation, investments in funds and transactions involving funds across a broad range of structures and asset classes, including real estate, venture capital, private equity, credit and infrastructure funds.

Kane has particular expertise in private funds with a cross-border element and regularly assists fund managers raising capital in Australia and globally.

He is a member of AIMA's Australian Regulatory Committee and the Property Council of Australia's Corporate Governance and Regulation Committee.

Experience

Kane’s experience includes advising:

  • Centuria on their industrial property capital partnership with a US-based real estate investor.
  • Franklin Templeton on the establishment of an Australian feeder fund for a Luxembourg evergreen private equity secondaries fund.
  • Galileo Ventures on the establishment of Galileo Ventures Fund II, LP.
  • Premier Capital Partners on the establishment of their debut Premier Capital Partners Fund.
  • A fund counsel in connection with the establishment of the W23 Global Fund, LP, a global grocery retail venture capital fund established by five global grocery retailers including Woolworths.
  • EQT AB on the establishment of an Australian coinvestment trust for a large superannuation fund to invest in a US acquisition.
  • CSC Global in relation to its appointment and retirement as trustee of numerous Australia wholesale unit trusts.
  • Twynam on the establishment of Twynam Earth Fund, a venture capital fund focused on decarbonisation technology companies with Australian, Asian and US investors.
  • KKR on the Australian regulatory issues relating to the establishment of an Australian feeder funds to invest in European semi-liquid, open-end retail funds focusing on private equity and infrastructure.
  • EQT AB on the Australian regulatory issues relating to the Australian feeder fund for EQT Nexus, EQT’s first semi-liquid, open-end strategy, aimed at providing individual investors with the opportunity to access EQT’s wide range of strategies that are typically reserved for institutional investors.
  • Stafford Capital Partners on their Australian venture capital funds, numerous Australian co-investments and investment mandates for Australian superannuation funds such as HESTA and First Super.
  • SecondQuarter Ventures on the formation of SecondQuarter 2020 Trust, Australia's first venture capital secondaries fund and numerous secondaries investments.
