Michael Mellon

Biography

Michael is a special counsel in our Corporate Advisory group.

He acts for Sponsors and Investors in a range of domestic funds and international funds across a range of asset classes and industries. He has a particular interest in private equity and climate funds, and has experience with property, impact, venture capital, infrastructure, credit and special situation funds.

His clients include fund managers, institutional investors, government departments and wholesale clients.

Michael’s experience also extends to establishing funds management businesses, M&A transactions, secondary sales of interests, carried interest arrangements, policies and procedures and advising on financial services laws. Michael closely follows market events to understand their commercial impacts for his clients.

Michael is a Notary Public and speaks Portuguese.

Experience

Michael’s experience includes advising: 

  • Pacific Island Forum on the establishment of a $1.5 billion public international climate change fund for the benefit of 18 Pacific countries.  

  • GGGI on the establishment of a carbon purchasing fund (first under Article V of the Paris Agreement). 

  • Allegro Funds for their turn-around / distressed situations Allegro Fund IV ($850m). 

  • Allegro Funds on various co-investment structures for listed and unlisted assets. 

  • Global Alternative Funds on more than 35 offshore investments (PE, VC, credit, sports, secondaries) raising more than $1.5 billion. 

  • Qantas Superannuation on numerous mandates in impact, PE, VC, critical minerals, energy, agriculture investing more than $3 billion. 

  • The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on investment advice for various offshore infrastructure mandates. 

  • Grains Research Development Corporation on a grains and seeds VC mandate. 

  • The establishment of the Perennial Private Opportunities Fund at $300m. 

  • RFC Ambrian on their $100m Critical minerals mandate. 

  • Inspire Impact on $600m impact investment mandates with various institutional investors.
