Biography
Natalie Zwar is a special counsel in our Technology and Intellectual Property group.She is an intellectual property litigator with over a decade of experience acting for clients across a broad range of IP and technology disputes covering copyright, trade marks, passing off and related trade practices law, confidential information, data protection and cyber security.
Natalie has particular interest in copyright and data protection including entertainment assets (music and film), software, databases and investigations of data misuse.
Experience
BCI Media Group in proceedings against its competitor CoreLogic Australia, subsidiaries and US parent company CoreLogic Inc concerning allegations of data scraping of online databases.
The two US performers accused of infringing copyright in the Australian song "Love is in the Air" in Boomerang v Paggett and Ors. The landmark case extended musical works under Australian copyright to include the sound of lyrics as sung.
FCA US and FCA Australia (Fiat Chrysler) in proceedings filed in the Federal Court alleging misleading or deceptive conduct, passing off and design infringement by an Australian competitor about the JEEP vehicle.
Neutron Holdings Inc., the Lime micro-mobility service in highly contentious trade mark and Australian Consumer Law proceedings relating to the LIME mark brought by the taxi industry in the Federal Court.
Qudos Bank, against its software vendor Infosys Technologies in relation to the potential misuse of intellectual property and confidential material provided during the course of a commercial arrangement.
Tolga Kumova (mining entrepreneur) in Federal Court defamation proceedings against anonymous social media account “@stockswami”.
