This transformative transaction consolidates Vocus’ existing inter-capital and regional fibre infrastructure with TPG’s complementary metropolitan fibre network, international submarine cables and Vision Network’s wholesale residential broadband business, positioning Vocus as a key digital infrastructure challenger and driving competition across the Australian telecommunications sector.
Following the acquisition, Vocus now operates:
50,000 plus kilometres of owned terrestrial fibre across Australia
15,000 kilometres of submarine cable infrastructure, including the PPC-1 cable to Guam, Australia Singapore Cable, North-West Cable system and Darwin-Jakarta-Singapore system
20,000 plus connected buildings, and
a significantly expanded wholesale residential broadband platform.
As part of this transaction, Vocus and TPG have also entered a long-term strategic partnership providing TPG with ongoing access to Vocus’ fibre infrastructure.
The G+T team was led by Corporate Advisory Partners Costas Condoleon and Kevin Ko, who were supported by lawyers Ailsa Neale, Kim Nguyen, Daniel Shlager, Jack Stephens and Harriet Nolan.
This transaction included significant involvement across G+T, including Technology and Digital Partner Andrew Hii and Special Counsel Stephanie Essey advising on the long-term commercial arrangements and telecommunications regulatory aspects, Banking and Projects Partners John Schembri and Adela Smith supported by lawyers Edmund Poon and Jack Jin advising on the debt financing, and Competition, Consumer and Market Regulation Partner Elizabeth Avery and Special Counsels Haidee Leung and Sarah Lynch advising on the competition aspects of the transaction.
Costas Condoleon and Kevin Ko commented:
