Biography

    Liana is a partner in Gilbert + Tobin’s Competition, Consumer + Market Regulation group.

    Liana has over 15 years’ experience advising on all aspects of competition and consumer protection law including advisory and contentious work.  Liana has particular expertise advising large, consumer-facing organisations manage competition and consumer law risk including in industries such as pharmaceuticals and health, retailing, aviation, telecommunications, media and consumer goods.

    Liana’s practice includes advising clients in relation to: regulatory investigations and enforcement action by the ACCC other regulators including NSW Fair Trading, Consumer Affairs Victoria, the ACMA, Office of the Australian Information Commissioner and Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman on a full range of competition and/or consumer law matters including criminal cartel investigations and prosecutions; all aspects of the Australian Consumer Law, including unfair contract terms, misleading or deceptive conduct, advertising and marketing clearance, consumer guarantees and product liability and safety; structuring supply and distribution arrangements;  obtaining regulatory clearance for mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures and obtaining authorisation for conduct such as industry codes and strategic alliances.

    Liana has significant experience representing the interests of originator pharmaceutical companies.  She has acted for a number of large players including Pfizer, Sanofi and Servier, as well as representative body Medicines Australia.
