Gilbert + Tobin is pleased to have advised Syrah Resources on a fully underwritten $110 million capital raising as the company ramps up production from its Balama, Mozambique graphite mine and advances plans for a downstream battery anode plant in Louisiana.

The G+T team on the capital raising was led by co-head of M&A/Corporate Advisory Neil Pathak and Partner Alex Kauye with support from Lawyers Luca Ciotto and Sarah McArthur. The capital raising was fully underwritten by Credit Suisse and UBS. Neil and Alex also led the G+T tneileam on Syrah’s capital raisings in 2016 and 2015 (with over $500 million in shares being issued over the 3 transactions).

Gilbert + Tobin has been a lead legal advisor to the company for a number of years, with Banking and Infrastructure Partner Alexander Danne acting as overall relationship partner and providing and co-ordinating support on a range of domestic and international matters across the business including consideration of debt funding, project agreements and offtake agreements. Partner Michael Blakiston, who leads the firm’s Resources practice, has assisted Syrah with its mining agreement with the Mozambique government and Senior Counsel Penny Swain has assisted with the mine construction agreement.
